Burglary costs the nation more than GBP2.8 billion and Booth Industries argues much more could be done to protect businesses.

Booth Industries produce Home Office and LPCB approved steel doors which resist physical attack, but can also protect against fire, sound, blast, air and water pressure They argue that businesses need to consider security more seriously because recent surveys* indicate that one in three businesses have been affected by burglary in the UK

In England and Wales alone there were 344,563 recorded burglaries against non-dwellings, largely commercial buildings, in 2005/2006.

Booth Commercial Doors product manager, Barry Gregson, said: "It is all well and good defending a property with CCTV and alarms but if the access to a building isn't properly protected, then it can be an easy target".

"You're only a strong as your weakest link".

He added: "Home office statistics show that more than 71% of burglars focus on a building's door to gain entry and this is where businesses need added protection".

"Too many companies use timber or plastic doors which tend to be weak both because of the frame and the internal structure, which in some cases can actually be entirely hollow".

"Burglars can break through an average plastic or timber door in a matter of seconds, no matter how good the actual locks are".

""If a company is serious about defending their property and just as importantly, its contents, then they should consider steel security doors.

Tests on the strength of steel doors are an industry requirement and these tests guarantee to buyers that they cannot be broken into easily.

Every aspect of a steel security door renders it attack-resistant".

""Companies need to consider what they would do if items within their building, either equipment or information was stolen or damaged...in some cases it would mean the business would never recover and may go under".

According to Barry, there are many choices open to businesses considering steel security doors as a cost-effective solution, given the aforementioned risks involved with low-level security.

Booth Industries is a long established provider of products for the Ministry of Defence and government facilities, designs.

The company manufactures and supplies bespoke steel doors for a variety of applications including blast, flood, ballistic, radiation, security and fire.
