Bobcat launches enhanced 1.6 tonne
mini-excavators

Bobcat, manufacturer of the widest range of market-leading compact equipment, has launched new enhanced versions of the company's 320 and 322 1.6 tonne mini-excavators.

Bobcat, manufacturer of the widest range of market-leading compact equipment, has launched new enhanced versions of the company's 320 and 322 1.6 tonne mini-excavators The new Bobcat machines feature improvements in every area, including a new cab and canopy, new lower emission Tier II M-Series Kubota diesel engines and enhanced undercarriage and work group components to boost reliability and efficiency

One of the many advantages of the new ROPS cab is the more rounded design producing better aesthetics and a significant reduction in the overall height of the machine.

This results in an even more compact mini-excavator that is easier to transport and where the risk of damage to the cab is lessened.

The cab has a new door design with an increased glass surface area for enhanced visibility and easier entry and exit from the cab.

The new M-Series Kubota diesel engine features a different fuel delivery system - direct injection compared to the indirect injection system utilised on previous mini-excavators from Bobcat.

The direct injection system provides increased fuel economy with up to a 12% reduction in fuel consumption, while generating less heat and ensuring easier starting in colder temperatures.

In the undercarriage of the new Bobcat mini-excavators, the company has changed the manufacturing process for the rollers, idlers and sprockets.

Instead of using induction heat treatment after machining, austemper heat treatment is used before machining, a process commonly used in the manufacture of larger excavators.

The Austempered Ductile Iron is twice as strong as normal ductile iron and is harder, offering greater wear resistance and a longer service life.

Bobcat has introduced other improvements to the rollers and idlers that have been proved in the field on the company's compact tracked loaders.

These include the use of greased and sealed bearings with a direct service replacement, doing away with oil fill and the fill drain plug and increasing service life by more than three times.

The 322 mini-excavator is differentiated from the 320 by an expandable undercarriage that can be hydraulically retracted or expanded allowing access to confined spaces and increased functionality in digging applications.

When the undercarriage is retracted, the 322 mini-excavator measures just 980 mm wide, so the machine can gain entry to sites through narrow gateways, doorways and trenches.

Once the 322 mini-excavator is in place on the excavation site, the undercarriage can be expanded to 1360 mm, the widest on the market.

With the launch of the new 320 and 322 models, Bobcat now offers a range of 16 excavators, including the 820 kg 316 micro-excavator and the top-of-the-range 7.5 tonne 442 model.

From the 316, where the breakout force is 830 daN and maximum digging depth is 1.55 m to the 442, which produces a bucket breakout force of 4916 daN and a maximum digging depth of 4.25 m, Bobcat excavators offer some of the highest bucket breakout forces and among the fastest cycle times in their respective classes, enabling operators to complete more work in less time.
