Indicative furnace tests fire resistance

An Exova product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Nov 19, 2008

Bodycote Warringtonfire has installed a 2m deep, 1.5m by 1.5m fire resistance test furnace to enable it to cater for newly introduced European standards for firestopping and building hardware.

With data logging and control systems which are at the cutting edge of current technology, the new Indicative Furnace will enable precise control to the new European fire resistance standards.

These include the new EN 1366-3 and EN 1366-4 test methods for linear gap seals and penetration seals and EN 1634-2, the small scale characterisation test for building hardware, which is expected to be published by the end of 2008.

The furnace will also enable a number of short sections of protected steelwork to be tested simultaneously ensuring a more cost effective test and with better correlation between sections than if tested separately.

The furnace complies with all relevant standards and legislation, including Hydrocarbon curves.
