BP Solar electricity panels have been incorporated into the design of the Zuckerman Institute for Connective Environmental Research [ZICER] at the University of East Anglia.

Almost 34 kwp of photovoltaics, including 27 kwp array within the roof design and 6.7kwp in the building fa?ade, will generate up to 29,000kw hours of clean, and renewable energy every year, while at the same time saving some 20 tonnes of greenhouse gases that might otherwise have been emitted The grid-connected solar system means that excess electricity is generated by the building, this green energy can be supplied to other users

The solar panels themselves, which were supplied in double-glazed units, have been integrated into the building structure.

In order to minimise potential overheating problems within the conservatory, studies were undertaken to identify the right mix of solar panels to clear glazed panels to help reduce heat gains but still allow as much natural light in the work space.

The newly opened ZICER will be one of the most eco-advanced commercial buildings in the UK.
