Bradstone is ideal for architects and specifiers wanting to use traditional looking materials but without the limitations of natural product.

In order to help protect Bath city's architectural heritage, Bradstone was chosen to supply product for a GBP1.6m housing development, where planners normally insist on the use of natural stone Developers, Magenta Properties, needed a product that was both cost effective and aesthetically compatible to the special Georgian architectural character of the city

Bradstone's Ashlar Walling was specified for the two prestigious detached houses because of the product's fine appearance on external applications.

Nearly all of the buildings in Bath are built with well renowned Bath stone, oolitic limestone used since the Roman times and most significantly within the city during the 18th and 19th Centuries.

This natural Bath stone is both expensive and a challenging material to use.

The very nature of Bradstone's offering - an individual product that blends with the local natural stone - means that Bradstone is ideal for architects and specifiers wanting to use traditional looking materials but without the limitations of natural product.

As a result, Ashlar meets Bath Preservation Trust's requirements to only support urban developments that enhance the city's World Heritage status.

Mark Barter, Commercial Manager for structural products comments: "Bradstone's products are specially produced to match local characteristics, especially in areas, such as Bath, where strict planning rules require new developments to match natural materials.

"By offering a cost effective means of replicating traditional designs, towns such as Bath are able to retain their historical character, despite on-going expansion and modernisation".

Due to its ready availability, competitive price and matching range of cast stone architectural features, Ashlar has recently been used extensively on a variety of commercial projects.

Notably, a 15,000 sq ft new spice and pulses packaging and storage factory in Buckingham, built by Marriot Construction.

Ashlar was chosen, as it met the requirements for a high quality smooth classic appearance - an ideal finish for commercial offerings.

The product's latest commercial offerings include supplying Ashton Buff for a new 25m indoor swimming pool for a prestigious boarding school in Gloucestershire and for large Industrial Units in South Cerney, Cirencester.
