The cream of Britain's hard landscaping companies were honoured at the annual Brett Approved Installer Awards, organised by Brett Landscaping and Building Products.

The awards ceremony was staged at the end of a successful one-day conference held at the Hellidon Lakes Hotel near Daventry, Northamptonshire Installers from across the UK gathered to learn more about Brett, its product range, innovations in product development and discussed current industry issues

Entries to the awards are open to members of the Brett Approved Installer scheme.

The scheme was established to protect the public from rogue traders who are common in the landscaping industry.

Each member of the scheme is vetted annually to ensure that their work meets the necessary British and industry standards and to confirm that they provide high levels of service to their customers.

Scheme members were invited to enter projects completed in 2007.

The projects were then checked by a Brett technical committee to ensure that entries met the relevant standards before being judged by a panel of independent experts from across the landscaping industry.

Brett received more than 250 entries to the awards.

Geoff Whiten, a member of the independent judging panel, and designer of Brett's 'Real Life' garden for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2008, noted that the quality of the workmanship had been very high and that the judging panel had a challenging task selecting the overall winners.

"Brett approved installers are carrying out some very good and interesting work as the installations considered by the panel were of an exceptionally high standard, which made judging very tough".

""I was also impressed with the increasing levels of soft landscaping features incorporated into the designs.

There is a clear trend for consumers to be looking for complete garden makeovers - not just a patio or driveway - and Brett approved installers are clearly benefiting from this trend," he added".

"Calvin Jackson, Approved Installer Scheme Manager at Brett Landscaping, said the annual awards were contested by installers who met the strictest criteria and who could demonstrate their commitment to the highest standards of workmanship and customer care".

"Calvin said that Brett is investing heavily in the Approved Installer Scheme".

"As a company that prides ourselves on the quality of the relationships we hold with people at all levels in the industry, we see the Approved Installer Scheme as being able to further develop and capitalise on these relationships for the good of our consumers, merchants and installers, as well as ourselves".

"Calvin added: "The Approved Installer Scheme provides considerable benefits to members and their customers.

Members receive a wide range of marketing support plus assistance with technical product information, health and safety issues, new products and industry developments, as well as being able to earn rewards for using Brett products".

"For consumers, in addition to knowing that they are employing a quality, vetted contractor, they benefit from a 10 year product guarantee and five year installation guarantee on all paving work completed".

"It's a win-win situation for installers and their customers".
