Brett commissions domestic driveway research

A Brett Landscaping product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Nov 20, 2009

Brett Landscaping has commissioned research that suggests that there is a need to educate householders on current regulations governing domestic driveways.

The Yougov survey is based on the research of 2,280 adults within the UK.

The report states that less than one in 10 respondents (eight per cent) has noticed press coverage on regulations.

The regulations were introduced in October 2008 to alleviate the risk of flooding and pollution of water courses.

The regulations say that homeowners can no longer create or replace their driveways without considering if planning permission is required.

Sustainable Drainage Systems (SUDS) do not require planning permission and provide surface-water-management techniques that replicate natural drainage patterns.

Permeable paving systems allow surface water to drain straight into the ground, minimising the rate and volume of water entering sewers and drains.

This reduces the risk of flooding, as well as improving water quality as pollutants are filtered out at source.
