Brett Landscaping achieves best practice award
Brett Landscaping's Slips, Trips and Falls campaign was awarded second place in the health and safety award category at the British Precast Best Practice Awards held at Concrete 2010.
The British Precast Annual Conference, Exhibition and Best Practice Awards took place at the Athena Conference Centre in Leicester on 11 May 2010.
The company also received a Gold Award with Red Seal for the British Precast Concrete Federation Hard Targets 2010 scheme.
The award was in recognition of Physical Safety, Behavioural Safety, and Occupation Health projects.
Brett Landscaping saw improvement in the company's SHE (Safety, Health and Environment) performance during 2009 and enjoyed a 31 per cent reduced incident rate.
A reduced RIDDOR rate (Reporting of Injuries, Disease, and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations of 78 per cent was achieved, helping the company meet a five year target reduction of over 50 per cent.
One member of Brett Landscaping staff, Jorge Dorrego Ortiz, factory manager at the company's Poole site, was personally honoured with the award for Outstanding Contribution to Health and Safety.
Under Mr Ortiz, the site has not had a RIDDOR or lost time incident since November 2007 and the minor accident rate has dropped from 14 in 2007 to just two in 2009.
Mr Ortiz has built a culture of good SHE practice at the site has lead by example.
As well as its success in Health and Safety improvements, Brett Landscaping also achieved ISO9001, ISO14001 and OHSAS18001 certification for its Pocklington and Barrow Upon Soar sites.
