British Gypsum say 'Think sound - think blue'
Think sound-think blue', is the latest message from British Gypsum following a move to standardise the face colour of all products in the company's Gyproc SoundBloc acoustic board range.
It will be constructed on part of the company's existing East Leake site, which already houses the largest plasterboard manufacturing facilities in the UK.
The new plaster plant will incorporate the latest technology and best practice from more than 60 plaster plants operated by parent company, BPB, the world's leading manufacturer of plaster and plasterboard products.
It will supplement production from British Gypsum's existing plaster plants at Barrow-on-Soar, in Leicestershire, and Kirkby Thore, in Cumbria, both of which have recently undergone significant capacity expansion to meet growing UK plaster demand.
The new plant will manufacture plaster from high-grade natural gypsum rock, extracted and processed on the site from an existing mine, which will be modernised and re-equipped as part of the project.
"Demand for plasters is continuing to grow due to changes in UK building methods and recent regulatory and legislative changes", said British Gypsum Managing Director, Mike Jones, "all of which favour plaster and plasterboard-based constructions.
"Furthermore, the recently published Barker Report is calling for ambitious increases in new house building, which will also impact on future plaster demand.
The new East Leake plant will give the company additional manufacturing flexibility and will ensue that we have sufficient capacity to meet our customers' requirements for the foreseeable future".
This latest investment is in addition to more than GBP100 million already committed for the new plasterboard plant at Sherburn-in-Elmet, near Leeds, and capacity enhancement at the East Leake, Robertsbridge and Kirkby Thore board plants.
It further underlines British Gypsum's commitment to ongoing improvement in customer service, and to maintaining its market-leading position in the drywall and plastering sectors.
