British Gypsum say 'Think sound - think blue'
Think sound-think blue', is the latest message from British Gypsum following a move to standardise the face colour of all products in the company's Gyproc SoundBloc acoustic board range.
The challenge for British Gypsum was to provide current levels of fire protection to key elements of the existing structure, whilst retaining the mill's distinctive Victorian features to add character and ambience to this unique multi-million pound development.
Working closely with Roseberry's architects and sub-contractors, British Gypsum provided effective and cost-efficient solutions using Gyproc FireLine, a high performance gypsum lining board with glass fibre and special additives in the core, which provides enhanced fire protection for wall and ceiling systems.
A double layer of 15mm Gyproc FireLine, screw-fixed directly to the underside of the rafters in the 3rd floor mansard roof, ensured the required 60 minutes fire protection, whilst allowing the enormous kingpin beams, the most distinctive feature of the timber roof, to remain exposed.
FireLine also provided local protection to the heads of the building's 365 cast iron supporting columns, at their junctions with the existing timber floor joists, providing both fire protection and an attractive design feature at the critical supporting points, whilst leaving the attractive circular columns exposed.
Finally, FireLine board was specified for external lining of service risers on all floors, ensuring up to 120 minutes protection for the building's essential services in the event of a fire.
When the development is completed, Victoria Mill will provide 112 single and two-bedroom apartments for another generation of Derbyshire residents, and will open up a new chapter in the history of this unique piece of local industrial history.
