The first phase of demolition, plant removal and preparation works at the site has been completed on schedule, ready for piling work to commence this week.

Erection of steelwork for the new mill, gypsum store and warehouse buildings will start in June.

The new Sherburn plant, which will be commissioned in late 2006, will increase British Gypsum's plasterboard capacity by around 20%.

This will meet growing demand resulting from recent changes to domestic building regulations and PPG3 planning rules, as well as increasing penetration of plasterboard-based drylining techniques in both the commercial and residential sectors.
