British Gypsum say 'Think sound - think blue'
Think sound-think blue', is the latest message from British Gypsum following a move to standardise the face colour of all products in the company's Gyproc SoundBloc acoustic board range.
Following recent expansion of the mine, output this year should top 120,000 tonnes, and is expected to increase further with a scheme to supply the company's nearby Robertsbridge factory in 2008.
A focus on health and safety throughout British Gypsum has seen lost time accidents down, company-wide, by more than three-quarters over the past 5 years.
Brightling's record puts it in the company's elite safety club, joining its sister mine at Fauld in achieving the 10-year milestone.
For Brightling Mine Manager, Craig Bryson, the achievement is down to a combination of teamwork and a rigorous safety regime.
"Mining is an inherently dangerous operation, so underground safety is our first consideration in everything we do.
The recent expansion has seen 6 new recruits join the mine; training and integrating them into the team, whilst simultaneously managing a team of external contractors, has been an added challenge, which makes this even more of an achievement.
"There is an ingrained safety culture at Brightling, where miners look out, not only for their own safety, but for the safety of their colleagues, which is why teamwork is so important.
Our objective now is to remain productive, efficient and incident-free for the next ten years.".
