Delegates at a seminar held at BRE, voiced their concerns about the implementation of the EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive.
The Founding Members agreed that the role and function of the UKGBC would extend beyond reducing the environmental impact of buildings, to include the broader issues associated with delivering a sustainable built environment.
The UKGBC will be established as a new not-for-profit company.
A Chairman is being sought and the process of recruiting a Chief Executive will start immediately.
The UKGBC's 20 Founding Members have pledged to provide £30,000 each over the first two years.
The start-up funding of £600,000 will enable the UKGBC to become fully established and launched in the Spring of 2007.
The Founding Members agreed that the role of the UKGBC was to act as a champion for sustainable buildings by:.
- Dramatically improving the built environment.
- Developing and enhancing the UK's world class position in sustainable building design.
- Transforming the market for 'sustainable' products.
It was agreed that BRE would provide the Secretariat support to the UKGBC and would partner with the UKGBC through the further development and use of the BREEAM family of tools.
The UKGBC will establish categories of membership which will enable engagement and collaboration with the many existing groups with an interest in delivering a sustainable built environment.
Active participation of professional institutions, trade associations and specialist interest groups in the key UKGBC committees and expert panels will be sought and encouraged.
Initially, four UKGBC sub-groups will be established to provide input and support associated with :.
- Advocacy.
- Marketing.
- Technical issues.
- Education, training, best practice dissemination and research.
