The British Coatings Federation (BCF) has announced the winners of its Coatings Care Awards 2009.

Coatings Care is a worldwide umbrella programme for the paint and printing ink manufacturing industries.

The annual award is presented by the BCF to the member site that can best demonstrate improvements in overall performance indicators which include: health and safety, energy consumption, waste and recycling, VOC emissions, management and communications.

ICI Paints AkzoNobel manufacturing site in Prudhoe, Northumberland won overall after demonstrating high levels of performance, investment, management and a commitment to the Coatings Care programme.

The site, which manufacturers a wide range of industrial and decorative paints, had reduced the amount of incinerated waste by 71 per cent over the past year and the overall amount of waste going to landfill by a remarkable 88 per cent.

Teal and Mackrill of Hull won the new Coatings Care Progress Award for the most improved site.

The site demonstrated consistent performance improvements year on year after putting in place programmes for both energy saving and waste management.
