The British Standards Institution is holding a conference to explore life cycle costing in construction with BS ISO standards.

The publication of BS ISO 15686-5:2008 Buildings and constructed assets, Service life planning, Life cycle costing (LCC) and the accompanying UK guidance document, identifies the best ways to realise the economic and environmental benefits of whole life costing for buildings.

As the construction industry finds itself required to demonstrate increased environmental responsibility, in the face of a financial downturn, calculating the true cost of a building becomes essential.

BSI is holding their 2nd annual conference on life cycle costing in construction, providing an update on the use and implementation of the standard and showcase best practice in the field.

Delegates will learn how to best implement LCC standards in order to reduce the overall cost of construction projects, in both financial and environmental terms.

Topics include how to sell the principles and benefits of LCC to clients in order to gain a competitive advantage, and how LCC can be incorporated into refurbishment projects, along with an update on the forthcoming publication on maintenance and LCC.

Practical case studies will provide examples of ways in which businesses can adopt new practices.

Speakers include: Mike Clift, Associate Director at BRE; Kathryn Bourke, Director of Whole Life; Ed Bartlett, Whole Life Director for Balfour Beatty Capital; and Paul Wornell and Peter Mayer of BLP.
