BSI to develop good practice guide for consortia
BSI British Standards is to begin work on a good practice guide to establishing and maintaining effective consortia.
PAS 98 Code of Practice for the Establishment and Management of Consortia will also provide a benchmark for organisations managing consortia and organizations seeking to join an existing consortium.
The PAS (Publicly Available Specification), which has the backing of key stakeholders, will be applicable internationally and across all sectors.
It will assist consortia deliver excellence across key functions such as market analysis, standards development, interoperability, education and lobbying.
Mike Low, Director, Standards, BSI, said: "Consortia have enjoyed considerable success over the past few years, most notably in the ICT sector where industry collaboration has produced interoperable technologies".
"There is now wide-spread enthusiasm for a robust best-practice specification which will enable consortia in any sector to operate successfully".
"Given its significant international representation, cross-sector influence and vast experience of transparent consultation with stakeholders, BSI is well placed to work with key stakeholders to develop such guidance".
An initial workshop held in June identified support for the project and brought together a wide range of stakeholders.
Delegates debated the issues affecting consortia and agreed on the primary challenges which should be addressed by such a good practice guide.
BSI is now calling for applications from industry experts around the world to sit on the Steering Group responsible for developing this guidance.
It is expected that a draft will be available for public comment by the end of the year.
