Bosch illuminators enable night filming for BBC

A Bosch Security Systems product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Apr 13, 2010

Bosch Security System's AEGIS UFLED infrared illuminators are being used by BBC film crew capture broadcast quality footage in total darkness.

Filming outdoors in typically difficult surveillance conditions presents challenges as many animals travel or feed under the cover of darkness.

The BBC recently aired a documentary entitled Great Rift, focussing on the diverse wildlife in Africa's vast Great Rift Valley.

Filmed in June 2009, the BBC crew used 10 of Bosch's AEGIS UFLED infrared illuminators for the documentary.

The AEGIS illuminators enabled filming in dark and cramped conditions.

AEGIS UFLED illuminators were selected because they are compact and discreet and powerful enough to enable broadcast quality night-time filming.

Bosch Security Systems has supported a number of BBC natural history documentaries, providing equipment for shows like Spring and Autumnwatch with Bill Oddie and a 2006 documentary which followed rare Sumatran tigers.

AEGIS UFLED illuminators also featured on the BBC's popular Big Cats Live series, monitoring the night-time activities of the Marsh Pride of Lions at Kenya's world famous Masai Mara game reserve.
