Unique design competition to be showcased at the Building Schools Exhibition and Conference (BSEC) 2009.

If you could design your own learning space, what would it look like?.

This is the question teachers can ask of pupils as part of a unique design competition that will be showcased at the Building Schools Exhibition and Conference (BSEC) 2009.

The final winning entry will be brought to life and implemented by some of the education industry's leading firms.

The competition is open to all Year 5, 6, 7 and 8 pupils in the North of England and all entries will be featured at BSEC 09, at Manchester Central from the 11th -12th February 2009.

Entries should include an outline design on a piece of paper no bigger than A3, accompanied by 200 words explaining why winning the classroom 'makeover' will make a difference to pupils.

Individual schools can put forward up to 10 entries from its pupils and the closing date for entries is Monday 26th January 2009.

The top three finalists will be invited to attend day two of BSEC 09.

The finalists' entries will be profiled at the event and the winner will be announced and two runners-up will be awarded book tokens to the value of GBP500.

"The right learning environment can make a real difference to the outcome of a pupil's education," explained David Hughes, marketing manager at leading construction consultancy and partner for the competition - EC Harris.

"The Design My Learning Space competition has been created to encourage pupils to take an active and positive role in creating their own environment in which to learn".

Working alongside EC Harris to realise the winning design will be leading ICT provider Northgate Education and education specialist contractor Wates.
