BMF Conference To Discuss Insurance Premiums
Enormous hikes in premiums, often with only a few days notice, have hit the construction industry hard and the Builders Merchants Federation (BMF) will be telling members how to avoid them in future.
"Our new look reflects our dynamic new culture and our determination to offer members tangible commercial and business benefits," said Kevin Cubbage.
He continued: "The BMF has redefined its role within the supply chain and has outlined its mission to help manufacturers and distributors sell better to merchants, and merchants to sell better to their customers - be they builders, plumbers, timber workers, electricians or kitchen and bathroom fitters".
This will be achieved through the new BMF Product Support Groups, bringing together manufacturer and merchant members to produce fact sheets and other materials.
These are designed to help trade counter, yard and sales staff advise on and sell products that will help customers meet current and new Building Regulations and Codes of Practice and will introduce them to new ways of working.
The first to be developed will cover timber, panel products, joinery and roofing, followed by plumbing and heating products.
The BMF will also provide "gold standard" training, management and business support for all merchant members, no matter what sector they operate in.
Kevin Cubbage explained: "The launch of BMF's Safetyfirst scheme demonstrated a real need for help in complying with Health and Safety Regulations".
"Safetyfirst, a yearly monitoring service tailored to each merchant's requirements, takes away the worry and ensures that they meet their Health and Safety obligations".
"For 2006 we are introducing a similar scheme for employment matters".
2006 promises exciting developments on the training front too, with the BMF expanding on its excellent modern apprentice schemes to offer a degree-level qualification for managers.
Said Kevin: "BMF members are the most professional in the industry - a fact recognised in the recent Builders' Merchants Awards for Excellence where they won 12 out of the 14 Awards".
"Moving into 2006, our mission is to help them develop that professionalism and maintain their competitive edge.".
