The Adult Learning Inspectorate has rated the Builders Merchants Federation as a 'good provider' of tailored apprenticeship schemes for merchants under 25.

The Adult Learning Inspectorate (ALI) has rated the Builders Merchants Federation (BMF) as a "good provider" of tailored apprenticeship schemes for merchants under 25.

This independent accreditation reinforces the quality of the BMF's industry specific work-based apprenticeships programme.

Inspectors were impressed with the BMF's high achievement rates, which are double the national average, and praised its specially tailored courses, quality assurance, and the excellent support given to learners.

The apprenticeship is aimed at general staff and incorporates a level 2 NVQ, whist the advanced apprenticeship is aimed at supervisors and aspiring supervisors and incorporates a level 3 NVQ.

"This is independent recognition that the BMF apprenticeship schemes are having a positive impact on the industry, providing young merchants with the chance to further their career through work based training programmes," says BMF apprenticeship co-ordinator Gary Tovey.

"The great advantage of our apprenticeship programmes is that they take place on site whilst the trainee is at work, and are delivered by a team of regional assessors at times to suit your business".

"They are free to employers and are tailored specifically for the merchant industry, which ensures staff gain the knowledge required to work effectively and efficiently".

"Employees are far more likely to remain with a company that provides proper training and development opportunities, and the greater interest in their job that this brings", adds Tovey.

The BMF operates as a centre for City and Guilds to offer a range of subjects from which you can select, such as warehousing, customer service, telephone selling, administration and retail operations.
