Builders Merchants Federation new Selling Guides cover Structural Timber, Part P Building Regulations, Equilibrium Float Valves and Packed Hydrated Lime.

The Builders Merchants Federation has developed and issued four new Selling Guides as part of its continued product support strategy, which is intended to help members increase their knowledge in specialist product areas The Selling Guides have been well received by the industry, and since their launch 12 months ago, have already provided hundreds of merchants with helpful advice on over 15 different topics, ranging from cement to energy conservation

Each of the latest BMF Selling Guides, which cover Structural Timber, Part P Building Regulations, Equilibrium Float Valves and Packed Hydrated Lime are written by industry professionals and designed to provide clear, concise and up to date information, to help members advise customers and supply the correct products for each installation.

The latest BMF Selling Guides cover:.

Structural Timber.

The influx of imported timber and the lack of a standardised grading system can lead to confusion among merchants and customers about which types of timber are suitable for structural use.

The Selling Guide gives clear advice on correct standards and structural credentials to ensure that only structural graded timber is sold for structural applications.

Part P.

This new electrical safety law - Part P of the building regulations, came into force two years ago, and affects how most electrical work is carried out in the home.

The Selling Guide gives an overview of the regulation, the electrical work it covers, and which areas in a home are classed as special locations - where electrical work must be notified to Local Building Control Officers.

Equilibrium Float Valves.

Equilibrium Part 4 Float Valves control the flow of water into WC cisterns.

The Selling Guide covers how they are used and how they differ from the more traditional Part 2 and Part 3 valves.

Guidance is also given on the correct type of valves to sell and which requirements they must meet, in addition to the most common sizes available.

Packed Hydrated Lime.

The Selling Guide recommends which applications hydrated lime is most suitable for and the main advantages the lime provides over other materials, such as improved plasticity and water retention.

The guide also sets out mortar application and render application charts, along with important health and safety advice that outlines precautions that should be taken when working with hydrated lime.
