BMF focuses firmly on its roots

A Builders Merchants Federation [BMF] product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Nov 1, 2007

Builders Merchants Federation is closing its Retail Membership category to focus on representing and defending the manufacturer - merchant - contractor route to market.

Announcing the decision at the BMF's Annual Members Day on 10 October, managing director Chris Pateman said, "The way forward for the BMF is as a trade association concentrated solely on championing, enabling and supporting professional builders merchants.

"As we look at the big challenges which face our industry today and in the future, making common cause with DIY shops has all but fallen off the agenda.

Merchants are working far more closely with manufacturers, professional building contractors and the wider construction industry to defend their role as credit provider, bulk-breaker and logistics specialist to trade customers engaged on trade projects.

And this is where the emphasis of the BMF must rest going forward." The decision has affected one member who ceased to be a BMF member with effect from 31 October.
