Fulfilling environmental commitment

A Building Product Design Group product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Jun 5, 2008

Commitment to ecological responsibility has been recognised by the attainment of an international standard at the Building Product Design Group.

The organisation, which includes Passivent- leading supplier of natural ventilation solutions, Glidevale- supplier of roofing ventilation, insulating membranes and daylighting systems, Z-Led damp-proofing and gas protection products, and Kingfisher Louvre Systems, has achieved the ISO14001 international environmental management standard across all its manufacturing and management sites in the UK.

The LRQA- awarded certification recognises BPD's structured approach to minimise its impact on the environment by reducing energy consumption, recycling where reasonably possible, reusing materials where practical and responsibly disposing of waste, at its Manchester head office, Hadlow (Kent) regional office and Pinxton, Derbyshire and Merthyr Tydfil manufacturing facilities.

The achievement of ISO14001 reinforces the Group's commitment to excellence, complementing its existing ISO9001, OHAS18001 and Investors in People accreditations.

Peter Willan, Building Product Design Group chairman, observes, "We believe it is essential in this day and age, where climate change is a fact, to demonstrate a level of corporate and social responsibility to manage our impact on the environment and implement the four 'R's.

Additionally, many of our products have environmental benefits, so it is logical that we 'practise what we preach' and do as much as practicably possible to minimise environmental impact.

"Attainment of ISO14001 is a logical step to demonstrate our commitment to quality and responsibility.

With increasingly tougher Regulations and targets for reduced CO2 emissions in the building industry, such as the Code for Sustainable Homes, we should, as a responsible supplier, be giving our customers every tool possible to help them meet their own challenges.
