Buxton Cement's bulk Portland cement is stronger than ever, thanks to recent process upgrades at the Tunstead plant.

These have lifted its official strength class under the European cement Standard, from a CEM l 42,5R to a CEM l 52, 5N.

It means customers are receiving a higher performance cement, but at no extra cost.

Ready-mix customers are already seeing the benefits.

Buxton Cement is also set to improve the early strength of its cement for the small element precast market.

The upgrade is another demonstration of how recent investment in Buxton Cement is paying off.

The plant, which opened in 2004, lifted Buxton Cement's capacity to 800,000 tonnes a year, from 300,000.

The company also boosted its rail delivery set-up, with new depots, rolling stock and an expanded railhead at Tunstead.

"It's been an extremely successful first year for the new plant," says Alistair Whitaker, Buxton Cement's sales director.

"We're now firmly established as a major player - and more and more customers are getting an even better product and service." It's not just in cement strength that Buxton customers are scoring.

Buxton Cement has also been granted kitemark verification for its low chromium (Vl) content.

That means all their cement products fully comply with the Chromium (Vl) Directive, an EU rule designed to minimise the occurrence of chromate-related allergic dermatitis.

And Buxton Cement's factory-blended lime and cement mortar product Limebond has been classified under the new European standard for masonry cement and now bears the CE mark to demonstrate conformity with BS EN 413-1: 2004.

Again, there's no extra cost for customers, just the benefits.

Alongside the product upgrades, Buxton cement is also providing comprehensive new literature, covering bulk and packed Portland cement, Ultracem enhanced Portland cement and Limebond.

Customers can also access all the information online, from BLI's newly upgraded website.
