Bygones Architectural Reclamations in Canterbury is a must for people restoring old buildings and want to preserve some of the beautiful artefacts found in old houses and gardens.

It was taken over by Bob Thorpe in 1995 and has gone from strength to strength Their website www.bygones.net has proved a great success and makes it easy for customers, who can't always come to the site, to see what is available

The Bygones site covers about 1sq acre but it is carefully planned.

All items such as Bricks, Roofing Materials, Reclaimed Timber, and Garden Statuary etc are laid out so that customers looking for particular items can easily find what they are looking for.

Bygones in Canterbury have a huge selection of original and reproduction items for the home and garden and it is a great pleasure to rummage round the well-stocked yard and the welcoming "shed".

Both are bursting with relics of the past and it is gratifying to suddenly find exactly what you have been looking for - and sometimes what you haven't been looking for but do actually need.

Typical stock includes cast-iron lamp posts, cast-iron and stone fountains, statues and urns, York-stone paving, reclaimed and hand made stock bricks, original gates and railings, balcony and window boxes, staddle stones, chimney pots, rose arbours, garden seats and benches, water pumps, milk churns, weather vanes, railway sleepers.

Georgian and Victorian fireplaces and at least 300 stripped pine doors, with 1000s other items such as hand made pine furniture, chandeliers and wall lights, marble chimney pieces, refurbished cast-iron radiators, mirrors, church pews, the list seemed endless.

In fact there are 1000s of other items for the home and garden.

In-house services include welding repairs, grit blasting, paint spraying and made-to-measure gates, railings, balconies, window boxes etc That wonderfully shaped radiator in the yard can be made to look and work as when it was first made - and to your colour specifications.

Bygones is a good place to come for solutions: if the tiles in your fireplace are cracked or missing altogether, they have a choice of 30 different tiles in various styles to choose from, a style to suit the period and decor of any home.

Or if you prefer a large open fireplace you can have a fire back and basket made to fit your space exactly.

Tools, firedogs and screens are also available.

Or if you have wonderful old handles on some of your doors but not of others chances are that you will find a perfect match at Bygones.
