Mike Eberlin is to become managing director of Castle Cement following the retirement of Peter Weller at the end of February Currently the commercial director for the company, Mike (44), has over 13 years experience in the cement and aggregates industry gained in the UK and New Zealand

Commenting on his promotion, Mike said that he was looking forward to the exciting challenge: "This is a great opportunity to lead an excellent team of people.

Our task is to serve our stakeholders in all aspects of our operations and to provide a fresh impetus for the future.

"Peter Weller has built a business with the best assets in the industry, including the recent GBP64 million investment at Padeswood.

Castle's challenge is now to consolidate this position and provide excellent service to our customers thereby securing the long term future and profitability of the business.

"Peter has also been instrumental in pioneering the use of alternative fuels in the UK and giving Castle the enviable position of being the lowest emitter of carbon dioxide per tonne in the UK.

It is my role to continue this improvement and maintain Castle's position as an innovative company that takes environmental performance and sustainability seriously.

"This focus on environmental excellence and sustainability stands alongside our commitment to customer service as we move forward into 2007".

Mike, a Cambridge University graduate, is a chemical engineer and is married with three children.
