Barclays plc has topped out its new building at One Churchill Place, Canary Wharf. The building has 30 upper floors and will be the world headquarters of the bank.

In the ceremony the final piece of structure was signed by those involved in the project and lifted to the top of the building George Iacobescu, Chief Executive of Canary Wharf Group, said, "The speed and the style in which One Churchill Place has been built has been unprecedented

This is an even greater achievement when you consider that the building is undoubtedly one of the most highly specified ever to be constructed in the UK.

Canary Wharf Group has worked closely with Barclays and with HOK International to design and construct a building that is probably one of the most efficient and most safety-conscious in Europe today.

All of us involved in this development are convinced that we have created something that will become an instant and very powerful classic." Sir Peter Middleton, Group Chairman of Barclays plc, said, "Barclays is delighted that it will soon be part of the Canary Wharf family.

We have been heavily involved in the design of One Churchill Place and everyone at Barclays is excited about the forthcoming move into this stunning building.".
