Constructing a striking new trio of specially designed buildings to house Monkey Heights at Paignton Zoo required Catnic lintels from the outset.

Constructing a striking new trio of specially designed buildings to house Monkey Heights at Paignton Zoo required the very best craftsmen and materials - a demand that led to the recommendation of Catnic lintels from the outset.

The zoos Maintenance Manager and Clerk of Works, Adrian Board explained his specifications for quality and durability throughout the build to staff at Paigntons Builder Centre, who immediately pointed him to Catnics range of Classic Combined Box Lintels for cavity wall construction.

Sustainable support.

Now 28 CN7 and CN8 lintels are being used in the GBP 1million construction of the three glass and timber-clad buildings, which are linked through a series of raised walkways.

The revolutionary building design also incorporates vast walls of specially commissioned UV reflective glass, solar water-heating and a water recycling system, which will be used to wash down the dens of the new primate inhabitants.

The complex will be home to a variety of species including Abyssinian colobus monkeys, King colobus monkeys, Diana monkeys, Sulawesi crested macaques, lowland anoa, lorises and goeldis monkeys.

Adrian said: "Monkey Heights is a major project that underlines our commitment to promoting conservation in all its forms".

"It is vitally important that the buildings can provide the right environment and that they are of the highest possible standard".

"Catnic lintels have an excellent reputation for being of the very highest quality.

Lintels are such a fundamental aspect of the construction of a building that we were determined to get the best ones in the marketplace.

Our supplier Builder Centre recommended Catnic without hesitation and I have total confidence in their quality and durability".

"Monkey Heights is going to be a very special building that will provide a unique experience to our visitors".

"They will be able to look into the dens through tree branch decor to give a sense of jungle exploration".

"The raised walkways will take visitors through the tree canopies and high-level climbing frames will bring the monkeys right up to eye level".

Quality assurance.

Catnics Classic Combined Box Lintels are carefully manufactured to incorporate full height expanded polystyrene insulation along their entire length, which is secured within the box section to prevent any accidental damage during the build".

"Catnics Classic range also includes profiles designed for closed eaves, in addition Catnic manufacture and supply Cougar open-back lintels, arch and feature lintels, stop ends, cavity weep vents and soffit cladding for an improved appearance above upvc windows".

"The rigorous lintel manufacturing process begins with hot dipped galvanised steel, but Catnic then incorporates its famous Duplex corrosion protection system, which involves the application of a black polyester resin coating to the lintel, ensuring complete protection from moisture or chemical attack from leaching masonry".

"Sali Morris, Commercial Services Manager at Catnic said: "We are very proud that our products are such an integral part of this prestigious new building at Paignton Zoo.

I know that the zoo has insisted on the finest materials throughout its project and we are delighted that yet again our reputation for producing lintels of exceptional durability and resilience has made Catnic the clear choice for this very special construction Catnic lintels are fully supported by the companys dedicated technical and design support team, which offers a free advisory service by Catnic engineers to all clients engaged on any size of project.
