Catnic Litetile used to tackle rugby club roof

A Catnic product story

Being a dry-fixed system, Litetile is both simple to install and cost effective.

The challenge When the original Chiswick Rugby Club suffered total destruction by fire, the club needed to rebuild a new pavilion to a very tight budget.

Housing the changing room, bar and social areas, the pavilion is at the very heart of the club's existence - and integral to its smooth running.

Surrounded by rugby pitches, the site's openness to the elements had led to the roof of the original pavilion becoming badly damaged.

During the planning process for the new building the local Planning Authority insisted on a traditional look, to fit in with the surrounding countryside feel, and therefore wanted conventional roof tiles, rather than the profiled sheet steel of the original building.

The main criteria for selecting a substitute roof were low cost and durability.

Catnic scores.

Catnic's Litetile roofing system footed the bill perfectly.

Being a dry-fixed system, Litetile is both simple to install and cost effective, making the steel roof ideal for low pitched, large spanned areas of the project.

Other key benefits of Catnic Litetile are that it is extremely flexible - Litetile can easily accommodate design features such as dormer windows - and durable, ensuring that future maintenance costs will be kept to a minimum.

Available in a wide combination of colours, textures and finishes, project architect, Roger Willingale, selected the Catnic Academytile in black agate to reflect the look and style of the traditional roofing materials in the area and sourced the tiles from Colemans Roofing Supplies in Portsmouth.

"We wanted a roof that was cost effective, but were not willing to compromise on quality," said Roger Willingale.

"Catnic's Academytile scored the best in our books as it was quick to install, easy to maintain and achieved the traditional style both we, and the Planning Authority, were looking for".

Perfect pitch.

The new look single storey pavilion has been designed to reflect the building's ongoing sporting heritage and incorporates a gable feature at the entrance similar to the original building.

The main roof is low-pitched (15 degrees), with the large gable at the front pitched steeper (40 degrees).

"We are delighted with the results created by Catnic's Academytile," continued Willingale.

"The large tiles were ideal for creating the low pitch on the main roof, and the Academytile colour and finish we chose means that it fits in perfectly with the locality as well".

Catnic's Litetile roofing system has been used in a wide range of projects, both commercial and residential, for over thirty years.

Each tile comes in single lengths of 1.67 metres, covering an area of 0.56 m2; which, along with its light weight, means that light timber beams could be used to support the roof, resulting in the whole roof being much faster and easier to install than would have been possible with traditional materials.

Litetile has BBA certification and comes complete with a full 30 year product guarantee.

As a Catnic product, Litetile is also fully supported by the company's dedicated technical, design and sales support team.

For more than thirty years, Catnic has enjoyed a reputation for superior quality products and technical expertise, backed by excellent customer service.
