Catnic supports prestigious development

A Catnic product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Mar 2, 2006

Davies Homes enlisted Catnic's expertise to provide lintels to suit their requirements at the Talygarn Manor development.

When regional home builder, Davies Homes, won the contract to develop one of South Wales' most prestigious and extraordinary housing developments, lintels was one of the specialist building materials required in order to make Talygarn Manor what it is today - an impressive, development combining the architectural standards of yesteryear, with the technologies of today.

Talygarn Manor is a grade II listed mansion, which has been converted into a range of luxury one, two and three bedroom homes.

Adjoining the original building, there is an additional 42 unique two, three and four bedroom new build townhouses and apartments in a courtyard setting.

The historic house is built from local stone and slate, while the interiors still displays its original Venetian splendour, fashioned by Italian craftsmen.

Since 2002 Davies Homes has specified Catnic lintels (bespoke and standard) in many of their developments based on the quality, service, durability, choice, and availability of the offering - a package which has given Davies Homes absolute confidence in working with Catnic.

Faced with a development that was to be in keeping with yesteryear as well as structurally sound Davies Homes enlisted Catnic's expertise to provide lintels to suit their requirements.

Catnic supplied a variety of lintels from their extensive range, including the original Catnic classic box lintels; standard cougar open back lintels, heavy-duty four course lintels, as well as range of angles, channels and internal box lintels.

As well as hundreds of standard lintels, this exclusive development consists of a large number of bespoke fabricated lintels, which were designed by Catnic's dedicated feature design engineer and manufactured to order from the designs.

Catnic's technical support team has the breadth of knowledge and expertise to design lintels for the most creative of openings, with in-house facilities and skill to manufacture to countless configurations.

A fast and cost effective fabrication service from a unique and highly specialised fabrication facility means that many bespoke lintels can be designed, approved and manufactured for delivery to site along with standard lintels thus minimising delays on site.

Catnic's standard lintels are manufactured from high quality grade galvanised steel to BS EN 10427:2004, then to give the lintels their superb corrosion resistance are black polyester resin coated to give them an additional layer of protection.

This double protection gives Catnic lintels an inherent benefit over lintels that have only been manufactured using the pre or post galvanised steel method.

The zinc coating provided by these methods of manufacture protects the steel, but is itself liable to rust with aqueous solutions leaching from the building fabric and eventually corrode.

However, Catnic's black polyester coating process provides an effective barrier against moisture and chemical attack that may be leached from masonry construction through the use of both methods of protection.

Construction Manager for Davies Homes, Matthew Davies, said: "Catnic lintels are one of the best quality lintels in the market.

They are superior products in the wholly practical world of construction because the quality of the product and service from the Catnic team is so reliable.

Catnic offer a wide range of lintels that suits a variety of openings, and if your requirement is not a standard product then you can have them tailor-made to suit your required design.

"The quality of the products, in addition to the comprehensive design and technical support that is provided, made Catnic a re-assuring choice for us.

Many of the lintels we used are arched or supported extreme loads, which meant that from design stage through to installation we had a challenge on our hands.

But this was made easier by the pre and post order advice given by Catnic's experienced engineers." Catnic Marketing Director, John Pryer, said: "We are very proud that our products are such an integral part of such a prestigious local project.

I know that the developers and architects have insisted on the finest materials throughout this development and we are delighted that yet again our reputation for producing lintels of exceptional durability and resilience has made Catnic the clear choice for this very special construction." Talygarn Manor has a long and distinguished history.

The ownership of the Manor and the lordship can be traced back at least to the 14th century.

The former manor was once a rehabilitation centre and more recently one of the venues where the filming for Doctor Who took place.

Catnic lintels are fully supported by the company's dedicated technical, design and sales support team.

An advisory service and telephone hotline is manned by Catnic engineers to all clients engaged on any size or stage of a project.

In addition to its industry renowned lintels, Catnic manufacturers and distributes a range of plasterers' profiles and Qwikpost - the easy to use fence post support system.

Other Catnic products include its lightweight roofing system, Catnic Litetile, and Catnic Brikmat - the innovative brick and block spacing system that aids fast and accurate brick and block construction.
