Causeway Collaboration Drives New Schools Projects
HBG Projects has selected Causeway Collaboration to support the design and construction of new school PFI facilities in Crawley, West Sussex.
London Causeway Technologies, a leading supplier of collaborative, commercial and supply-chain software solutions to the construction industry, has announced that HBG Projects has selected Causeway Collaboration to support the design and construction of new school PFI facilities in Crawley, West Sussex.
West Sussex County Council placed great emphasis on design quality when setting down its requirements for the development, which includes the construction of a new secondary school with up to 1450 places, as well as the demolition and replacement of the Thomas Bennett Community College and Ifield Community College.
One of the key factors driving the successful design and construction of the new school facilities is the ease of use of Causeway Collaboration.
Within three months of the start of the project, 120 users were collaborating with over 5000 documents, comparing drawings and viewing changes on which they urgently needed to act.
The speed with which the project took off can be attributed to Causeway Collaboration's easy-to-use interface that allows basic user training in just 30 minutes.
An automatic drawing register accurately tracks issues made by any of the project partners, eliminating the need for each organisation to manually update individual registers.
The register also ensures there are no disputes over when documents are sent or received, considerably improving the supply-chain relationship.
Causeway Collaboration is a team collaboration tool that can be used either as a project extranet or deployed within a company as a team collaboration solution.
It is based on Open Text's market-leading Livelink, and it leverages Livelink's award-winning search engine, workflow and document-management capabilities.
It is already used internally by several leading construction firms, and adopted as an extranet by a growing number of projects in Europe and North America.
"Causeway Collaboration is fundamental in enabling the large project team to manage the process of issuing drawings, allowing instant access to the most current design information as soon as the architect or engineer has uploaded it," said a member of HBG Projects.
"With all three schools being designed in parallel, it was of paramount importance to work with a collaborative solution that could provide a fast and accurate streamlined process and would provide the design teams with a coordinated approach to the project." HBG FM will maintain the building for 30 years after construction and will benefit from the huge wealth of project-related information generated.
Facilities management teams and maintenance subcontractors will be able to access the "As Built" drawings and specifications.
