CCG, one of Scotland's premier construction companies, has started construction on development of 48 new homes for social rent for New Gorbals Housing Association.

CCG, one of Scotland's premier construction companies, has started construction on a GBP4 million development of 48 new homes for social rent for New Gorbals Housing Association Featuring spacious modern flats and maisonettes in a range of styles and sizes, the development, comprising a 6-storey feature block located at a prominent corner on Ballater Street and 4-storey blocks along Waddell Street, Gorbals, Glasgow, combines stunning contemporary design with innovative space planning, comprising a zig-zagged front elevation and large panels of glazing designed to maximise solar gain and natural light distribution within apartments

Designed in line with the government-backed police initiative, 'Secured by Design', the development adopts recommended crime prevention guidelines to assist the creation of safer and more secure communities.

Located on the site of the former Clyde Salvage Yard, the development brings former derelict property back into productive use, providing a fine example of the re-use of a brownfield site in line with the government stance on sustainable development.

Alastair Wylie, Managing Director Manager, CCG, said, "It gives us great pride to be working in partnership with New Gorbals Housing Association on this landmark scheme and to be part of the ground-breaking revitalisation of the locality".

Fraser Stewart, Director, New Gorbals Housing Association, said, "We continue to push for higher standards of design and construction in our housing developments - and this new project is a fine example or our strive for quality".

Construction on site is planned to take 13 months and the target for completion is November 2006.

The project, funded by Glasgow City Council, forms part of the ongoing and hugely successful Crown Street Regeneration Project which, since its launch in 1990, has transformed the Gorbals neighbourhood.
