CCG starts construction on new Sheltered Housing

CCG has started construction on a development of close care accommodation providing 35 homes for affordable rent in Linwood for Linstone Housing Association.

CCG, one of Scotland's premier construction companies, has started construction on a GBP4.2 million development of close care accommodation providing 35 homes for affordable rent in Linwood for Linstone Housing Association.

The development aims to meet the acute need for sheltered housing in Renfrewshire region.

The opening ceremony for the sheltered housing complex for clients with particular needs was performed today by Wendy Alexander MSP at the site at Cairn Drive/Kinnaird Drive.

The project involves the Youthbuild Initiative, a scheme giving young people from Social Inclusion Partnership areas, training, work experience and support to enable them to achieve recognised construction-related qualifications, a step on the employment ladder and tenancy of a home.

Darren McCann, Partnership and Innovation Manager, CCG, said, "It has given us immense satisfaction to secure this quality project from a new client against stiff competition.

The site start marks the culmination of years of hard work and dedication by the Association and local community".

Nanette Reid, Chairperson of Linstone Housing Association, said, "We are delighted to be embarking on this very sheltered housing development, the first of its kind in Linwood.

The Renfrewshire Local Housing Strategy had identified a need for this type of housing and we are grateful to Communities Scotland for providing approximately GBP3million funding to assist this development".

Funded by via GBP3m grant from Communities Scotland and GBP1.2m private finance raised by the Association, with land provided by Renfrewshire Council, construction works are scheduled to take 12 months, with a target completion date of November 2006.
