Recognition for CDC MD

A CDC product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Mar 27, 2008

Mike Williams, Managing Director and Founder of CDC, the Intelligent Buildings people, has been named as one of RealComm's 'Top 35 People to Watch in 2008'.

RealComm, the international commercial and corporate real estate technology resource, created the accolade to recognise both individuals and organisations that are committed to furthering the use of innovative technologies in the commercial and corporate real estate industries.

Those who were selected for the list were marked out for their passion, determination and persistence, all of which will serve to create positive change and growth in the industry.

RealComm is the commercial real estate's premier technology symposium for industry leaders, and launched its inaugural European conference, Realcomm Europe, last month in London.

The two-day event, at which Mike Williams gave two presentations focusing on best practice of command and control centres, brought together the real estate technology industry and the European business community to discuss global best practices and the use of technology in the industry.

The annual "Top 35 People to Watch" list was developed to recognise the achievements and vision of those who are not satisfied with the status quo and dare to do something about it.

Of those included in the list in 2008, four were British - including Mike - compared to just one in 2007, highlighting the rising profile of the UK industry within a global context.

Of particular interest is the fact that many of the individuals listed come from large demand-side companies, in contrast to Mike's standing as head of one of the only supply-side companies on the list, setting him out from the crowd and placing CDC alongside large multinational companies in terms of its expertise.

Mike has demonstrated a strong track record of turning vision into reality, through both promoting and delivering Intelligent Buildings and an involvement in various high-profile committees such as The British Council of Shopping Centres, British Standards Institution (BSI), and a long time involvement with Intelligent Building Group (IBG), for which he is its General Secretary.

Mike founded CDC in 1992, and since then the company has pioneered an integrated approach to intelligent buildings using the IP (Internet Protocol) network to create a state-of-the-art building management solution, Integra.

The technology provides complete visibility of the whole estate from a single point, generating significant productivity improvements and reducing costs.

Mike Williams comments: "A new paradigm shift towards automation and technology is taking place, and is changing the way we manage and operate commercial and corporate real estate".

"I am dedicated to taking this to the next level harnessing CDC's consultancy and Integra product, both of which help create a more effective and efficient environment".

In 2006 Mike was appointed an advisor to the Beijing Government on energy saving in buildings; and was admitted to the Experts Panel of the Intelligent Buildings Committee of the Chinese Ministry of Construction, as the first and only non Chinese member.
