Cold Control, the specialist award winning air conditioning and refrigeration company was recently called upon by their local butcher to help in the redevelopment of a new site.

Cold Control, the specialist award winning air conditioning and refrigeration company was recently called upon by their local butcher to help in the redevelopment of a new site CJ Read, a butcher based in Medstead, Hampshire was trying to create the largest, most modern butchers in the South

Cold Control helped supply the majority of the refrigeration equipment in Read's last shop, which was located close to their new site.

Norman Read, the proprietor of CJ Read, asked Cold Control for their expertise again in specifying equipment for his new and improved site which included a dual compartment cold room, prep area and a shop area to incorporate the ever growing number of people using his shop.

Norman commented, "Cold Control did a fantastic job on the last shop and their level of service and expertise was second to none so I did not hesitate to contact them again".

Cold Control worked around the various builders and contractors involved in the project to install and specify state of the art climate controlled equipment to help Reads become one of the most prolific butchers in the South.

Cold Control, based just a few hundred yards from the new site, have installed a variety of top of the range refrigeration systems.

Within the main shop area Cold Control installed a 15 metre Pastorfrigor Delta refrigerated display counter, with a 840mm stainless steel deck, which accommodates the extended fresh meat selection and houses delicatessen style produce including cheese, fish and olives.

This display counter benefits from a hydraulic lift, which opens the glass front making it easier to keep clean and also reduces the risk of injury for the butchers who are constantly leaning in to clean it.

The counter also has an easy reading digital temperature display and is fan assisted to keep the temperature constant.

Lastly the units have under counter storage which is ideal for prepping meat, thereby aiding productivity.

Cold Control also installed an energy efficient Mitsubishi inverter driven heat pump air conditioning system.

The system provides energy savings of up to 70% annually when compared to a previous non-inverter model, and has a very low starting current of only 5 amps.

Operating noise has been reduced thanks to improvements in fan design, while existing pipe work is reusable for easier maintenance and installation.

The system adheres to the Government's R-410A standard, and the air conditioners and heat pumps utilise the most up to date technology available for efficient and reliable operation.

This eliminates the possibility that refrigerant leaking from your system might contribute to the hole in the ozone layer, as emissions of R-22 are considered by some experts to be a significant factor in depleting the ozone layer.

Also this unit qualifies for the Enhanced Capital Allowance (ECA) scheme, the Government's incentive for businesses to invest in energy efficient equipment.

The new site incorporates a dual compartment coldroom, which has a separate freezer and chiller unit, which both include hygienic stainless steel hanging rails designed to accommodate a total of 5500kg of meat.

Temperature distribution inside the coldroom is one of the most difficult features to control.

As the temperature differs in the various parts of the chamber its distribution depends on correct design, however, both these compartments were fitted with forced air low profile coolers complete with electric defrost and gravity drain which evenly distribute the cold air creating a uniform temperature.

Both cold rooms refrigerants were fitted with low noise condensers set just outside the shop.

Cold Control ensured that these condensers emitted low noise, as a couple of residential flats are located within close proximity.

The prep area was fitted with a Kueba comfort DP air forced dual discharge air cooler system with integrated air baffle plates for low air speed cooling.

This unit has an airflow rate from 930 to 8240 m/h and temperature application range of 0degC to +20degC.

The unit is ideal for workers who are constantly working around the area as the dual discharge creates less draughts promoting staff comfort.

In addition, the unit is ultra quiet complimenting good working conditions.

Lastly, the high-grade, food-quality powder coating of the unit makes it easy to clean and provides optimal corrosion protection, and the removable end panels facilitate easy cleaning.

Both the dual compartment cold rooms and the prep area were Eurovent certified, this ensuring that the actual performance of certified products match the claimed performance regarding such factors as noise levels, thermal characteristics and energy consumption which all help to lower the carbon emissions of the building as a whole.

The complete site required precise internal environmental control, regarding temperature, hygiene, thermal and fire safety.

Cold Control fitted 72 linear meters of PIR rigid urethane core panels because of their proven thermal and performance properties.

These panels have excellent strength to weight ratio and spanning characteristics, the lightweight materials mean less structural steel is required, providing both cost and energy savings.

PIR panels offer a greater thermal performance enabling a reduction of thickness by up to 50%, which results in maximizing internal space.

The panels can be easily washed and cleaned and are not prone to surface or interstitial condensation, as this could lead to the formation of bacteria and mould growth on the surface causing health and safety issues.

Norman Read said, "Cold Control have been great, they have worked around the variety of contractors and have specified top of the range climate controlled systems which means customers can be safe in the knowledge that this state of the art refrigerated site guarantees that food is sold in the freshest possible condition".

Mark Grant, Managing Director of Cold Control commented, "We have used a variety of top name equipment to ensure that Reads' customers receive the freshest food every time".

Cold Control offers 24/7 365 days after sales service and understand that they are vital to the running of a business.

They also offer two to four preventative visits a year to all their customers to ensure that equipment is always in good working order.

They offer a nationwide service with a dedicated service team throughout the country.

Cold Control boast an impressive customer base, from large pub chains and commercial buildings to many well-known department stores.
