Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Jun 3, 2004

Beat soaring petrol prices by learning how to make bio-diesel for your vehicle on this exciting new course at the Centre for Alternative Technology.

From 19th-21st November, the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) will be running a brand new course entitled 'Make your own Bio-diesel'.

The course will enable you to produce your own cheap bio-diesel, without the need for alterations to your engine.

The whole scale of production is covered - from a small home-made plant right through to commercial-scale.

Specific elements covered include the chemistry behind bio-diesel, the supply of used cooking oil and other chemicals, vehicle considerations, Environment Agency and VAT law, plant design and construction using readily available materials.

With fuel prices set to continue to rise, can you afford not to learn about this environmentally-friendly alternative to petrol? The course is suitable for all - whether you1re an interested individual, an environmental charity, or a community wanting to set up your own scheme.

The course would also act as a great starting point for prospective commercial operations.

Phil Hunt is running the course from LiLi, the Low-Impact Living Initiative based in Buckinghamshire, which is committed to promoting ways that people can live more harmoniously with their environment.
