Small-scale wood heating course

New practical course on wood heating now at The Centre for Alternative Technology.

A new practical course on wood heating will run from 23-25 February at The Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT).

The course leader is industry expert, Chris Laughton.

The course meets a growing interest in using wood for heating in rural areas.

Chris Laughton says: "Automated wood heating systems can provide the convenience and reliability of fossil fuel boilers with far less environmental impact".

"New low carbon wood fuel types have also been developed".

A promoter of higher standards in the industry, Chris recently released 'Home Heating with Wood: a DIY renewables guide' which shows how to meet the challenges of climate change using green technologies while at the same time making your home more comfortable and cheaper to heat.

Chris has many years of experience installing heating systems, from small and simple wood stoves to large woodchip boilers and advanced wood-pellet burners.

Like all of the 'Carbon Busters' series from CAT publications, this new book includes detailed information and case studies to make cutting carbon as easy as DIY.

The course will provide an overview and experience of modern wood heating for domestic and commercial applications.

Topics include: how and why to choose wood heating, wood fuel, types and appliances to burn wood, wood fuel storage, regulations and grants.

There will be practical demonstrations of equipment and fuel.

The course is suitable as an in-depth topic for domestic users and as a general introduction for small-scale commercial and institutional users, architects and heating engineers.

It complements the longer 4-day BPEC certified wood heating course for installers- also held at CAT.
