Bridgend College is encouraging students to use Celuform PVC-ue profiles in the Foundation Certificate in Building Craft Occupations' course.

Bridgend College is encouraging students to use Celuform PVC-ue profiles in the Foundation Certificate in Building Craft Occupations' course.

The idea is that students will gain experience of working on alternative materials as well as traditional timber products.

The Construction Industry Training Board recognised course offers tuition in carpentry, joinery, building skills, painting and decorating and brickwork and is designed to give school leavers experience of a range of disciplines within the construction industry.

Associate lecturer Tony Crutcher, who has many years' experience working with cellular plastics, thinks it is important for students to work with a wide variety of materials.

"Cellular plastic is now an 'every day' product and has a valid position alongside timber," he says.

He believes that budding carpenters and builders should have experience of using both.

Tony was delighted when Celuform offered to donate material for the course free of charge.

"I have always considered Celuform to be leaders in the market and their dedication to training has always impressed me".

"Their products were a natural choice for the course," he says.

Celuform's Technical Manager Len Meredith adds: "This supports the work we undertake in our training school to improve the skill base of people already in the industry".

"We believe it is part of our social responsibility to invest in the next generation of craftsmen and this is a great opportunity to contribute".

Celuform was the first UK manufacturer of PVC-ue building products and today is the largest UK supplier of roofline and cladding systems.
