Design with Cembrit fibre cement range of slates

A Cembrit product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Nov 20, 2008

Fibre cement slates from Cembrit are making a bold design statement at a newly extended major supermarket in Wiltshire.

The large extension to the store features Jutland slates across the whole roof, with a two tone theme incorporated into the design.

Two strips of terracotta Jutland slates have been laid in a band incorporating a 'V' pattern to offer a vivid contrast to the shades of the dominant blue black Jutlands.

This striking design feature underlines the versatility of Cembrit's fibre cement range of slates.

8000 Jutland slates were used on the extension with the terracotta slates being made to special order by Cembrit.

Installed by Kavanagh Roofing of Shaftesbury, each Terracotta slate has also been scalloped (curved on the foot) as a further design feature.

Graham Glaze of Kavanagh Roofing says: "Being versatile and easy to lay, Cembrit's Jutland slate was the perfect choice for this project".

"Incorporating a design feature can often be difficult but in the case it couldn't have been simpler: the terracotta slates were perfectly manufactured with the curved foot and combined with some intelligent organisation on-site we were able to complete the project without a hitch".

"I'm delighted with the result".

Cembrit's Jutland slates are compatible with the most common building materials and are finished with a high quality, semi-matt acrylic coating which is applied to both faces and all edges.

They are manufactured to a high quality and a good, cost-effective alternative to natural slate roofing.

Jutland slates are made in accordance with a quality assurance system to ISO 9001 and to the requirements of BS EN 492 product specification for fibre cement slates and their fittings Using skills built up over 80 years, Cembrit select natural slate from Spain, Canada, Brazil, China, India and the countries of Western Europe.

From UK quarries Cembrit offer Welsh, Cornish and Westmorland slates.

Quality levels at Group factories are rigorously maintained to high standards with fibre cement slates produced to BS EN 492:2004 and manufactured under the control of a BS EN ISO 9001: 2000 quality management system.

Furthermore the company operates an environmental management system to ISO 14001:1996.

Cembrit UK is a member of Cembrit Holding (formerly the Dansk Eternit Holding ) of Denmark, one of Europe's major building material producers of fibre reinforced cement products for the roofing and cladding industry.
