Trade flooring market declines by two
percent
Flooring Market Barometer, a quarterly report published by Consulting Plus, says the trade flooring market declined in the second quarter of 2007 by an estimated 2%.
Many flooring contractors commented it was the worst they had known the market for many years although there were some pockets of growth Regionally, the South East was relatively buoyant but East England, South West/Wales and Scotland were suffering from a very tight market

Penalty Driven Environmental Legislation
Increasing tendency for environmental legislation to be penalty driven rather than incentive driven.
In the South West/Wales for example, 9% of flooring contractors reported an increase in work compared to the previous year whereas 55% said they had less work.
The residential sector in particular was badly hit with a majority of flooring contractors active in this sector saying they had seen sales volume fall year on year.
However, the shops and leisure sector was doing better with a majority of contractors working in this market reporting a sales volume increase.
In terms of products, the laminate market was losing share to other product groups while vinyl was taking a larger share.
The quarterly report is based on an extensive interview programme with flooring contractors, flooring manufacturers and flooring distributors and is produced by Consulting Plus, a marketing and research company specialising in the flooring sector.
