Over 20 members of the CORGI Council met with representatives from CORGI's Board of Directors.

The latest meeting of the CORGI Council was held on Tuesday 5 April 2005 Over 20 members of the CORGI Council met with representatives from CORGI's Board of Directors including Chairman David Latham OBE and Chief Executive Mike Thompson

The meeting offered all Council members the opportunity to discuss key issues surrounding CORGI's current and future activities, and CORGI consulted members on a number of planned changes.

Mike Thompson, Chief Executive says: "We were able to openly debate the major issues affecting the gas industry in an extremely constructive forum with the Council.

These meetings provide CORGI with the valuable opportunity to consult with Council members before decisions affecting CORGI's direction and strategies can be made.

We recently increased the frequency of Council meetings in a bid to further improve communication between ourselves and the members, and I've been pleased with the positive outcomes of the latest meetings.

Although a large number of Council members attended the meeting, I was disappointed that some of the more "vocal" Council members declined such an opportunity to express their concerns direct to CORGI and be involved in current consultation processes.

Issues discussed: CORGI Trust - a charitable organisation that could allocate surplus profits generated by CORGI's commercial activities to benefit the gas industry such as offering financial assistance to apprentices or increasing public awareness of gas safety.

CORGI is consulting with Council members to gauge support for the concept and determine the focus of the Trust.

ACS - The Council discussed issues surrounding ACS and the current work experience requirements.

Whilst work experience is an essential pre-requisite to entering the gas industry, Council members were asked to review the level of experience set out in the guidance notes to the ACS Certification Bodies.

The Council's recommendations will be passed to the HSE's scheme committee currently evaluating the requirements.

CORGI's Corporate Structure - Following the debate at the last Council meeting, members discussed details of the proposed important changes to the governance and management of CORGI that will allow a greater focus on the registration scheme and gas safety.

Consumer Campaigns - The Council were updated on CORGI's recent successful consumer awareness campaigns.

Installer Representation on Council - Members discussed the need for the opinions of smaller Registered Installers to be represented on the Council.

At present Installers are only represented by various Trade Associations, but CORGI would like Installers to be formally consulted on important issues.

Representation would be in addition to the current communication channels that exist to consider feedback from Registered Installers.

CORGI is a company limited by guarantee, and is governed by the Council.

The CORGI Council consists of 40 members representing a wide range of organisations and associations, all with an interest or involvement in matters relating to gas safety.
