Chubb Fire, has launched a new Guide to Fire Safety Solutions written specifically for the IT Manager.

With Information technology playing an essential role in today's business world, protecting such systems from fire-related damage is critical For this reason, the UK's leading fire specialist, Chubb Fire, has launched a new Guide to Fire Safety Solutions written specifically for the IT Manager

Chubb Fire is part of UTC Fire and Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp.

The Guide focuses on the advantages of a comprehensive IT disaster recovery plan, including protection against catastrophic incidents, notably fire.

In such a scenario, the costs of downtime and business and service interruption are high, yet easily mitigated.

Early warning fire detection technology can detect a fire and automatically activate the release of a fire suppression agent within seconds.

"Choosing the right fire fighting system is an important decision," explains Suzanne Donovan, Marketing and Communications Director of Chubb Fire, "with the choice of so many options including FM200, Argonite and Novec 1230 to name but three.

The Guide tackles the options with a straightforward table, comparing the advantages and disadvantages of the most widely accepted extinguishing agents, in simple, easy to follow language.

"Important issues for the IT manager to consider are also detailed, in order to help select the best agent to suppress a fire as quickly and safely as possible, with the minimum of disruption to their business".

The Guide also stresses the importance of maintaining a fire suppression system, with twice-yearly routine service visits recommended to ensure that systems are fit for purpose and compliant with legal obligations, insurance requirements and British Standards and Codes of Practice.

"Regular servicing and maintenance reduce the risk of false alarms and potential false activation and discharge of the gas.

It also reduces the risk of equipment failure in the event of a fire, while extending the life of the installation," Suzanne concludes.

Advice on the safe decommissioning and removal of Halon, prohibited for use in 2002 under EC regulation, is also included.
