Future for concrete is set firm
Concrete continues to provide significant commercial and environmental benefits says Robin Horton, Sales and Marketing Manager, Coltman Precast Concrete .
I'm pleased to say that the introduction of this new system has proved effective in controlling and reducing that risk".
The TruckMat system consists of nine inflatable mattresses that are inter-connected and can be used with a range of trailers and vehicles.
They have been tested in conjunction with the Building Research Establishment and British Safety Council, achieving accreditation from both.
In other health and safety developments, members of Coltman's sales force and other head office staff such as quantity surveyors and estimators, who need to make site visits, have been issued with Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) cards, which are already carried by site gangs.
"This is to ensure that all the company's front-line staff, as well as the site operatives, are accredited to the scheme", said Mick Thurman.
"We are also reviewing our procedures in line with the new Construction Design Management regulations, particularly the way design teams carry out their designer's risk assessments".
As Chairman of the Precast Flooring Federation's Health and Safety committee, Mr Thurman is currently heavily involved in drawing up the new Code of Practice for the Safe Erection of Precast Concrete Flooring and Associated Components.
This is due to be introduced later this year.
