CIRIA Award 2003

A CIRIA product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Jun 30, 2003

CIRIA is pleased to announce that the CIRIA Award 2003 has been presented to the Health and Safety Executive.

Kevin Myers, Chief Inspector of Construction of the Health and Safety Executive received the award at CIRIA's AGM, in recognition of HSE's outstanding contribution to the work of CIRIA over many years.

Over the years many of HSE's technical experts have been closely involved in CIRIA's work and have enabled us to be assured that the health and safety aspects and implications of our guidance are properly considered.

CIRIA would like to give special recognition to the exceptional contribution of the following people: Donald Lamont, member of the Core Programme Management Committee; Brian Neale, Chairman of CIRIA's Environment Advisory Panel; Stephen Taylor, member of CIRIA's Building and Construction Technology Advisory Panel and has chaired a number of CIRIA project steering groups; Dick Haworth, a contributor to CIRIA's work on Safegrounds - the remediation of nuclear contaminated sites, and of course Kevin himself, who is a member of CIRIA's Council.

Without these contributions and those of the others who may only have been involved in individual projects, CIRIA's guidance would undoubtedly have been diminished in its value to the industry.

On receipt of the award, Kevin commented "I am delighted with this recognition of HSE's work with, and through CIRIA.

CIRIA's mission is to improve the performance of all those involved in construction and the environment.

This strongly complements HSE's objective of seeking to influence organisations to understand the social and economic benefits of effective risk management leading to high standards of health and safety.

Cultural change is at the heart of both our agendas.

I look forward to our continuing collaboration with CIRIA." Tim Broyd, Chief Executive of CIRIA stated "The Health and Safety Executive has supported CIRIA's work for many years.

On behalf of CIRIA's members, I am delighted to be able to mark their contribution by means of this award this evening.".
