On track for sustainability

On track for sustainability: CTRL (Channel Tunnel Rail Link) seminar and site visit.

CTRL has bought together numerous civil and railway engineering practitioners, contractors, clients, funders and environmental specialists to construct a new high speed rail link between London and the Channel Tunnel This complex and exciting project will create future benefits for the travelling public and regenerate key areas of London and the SE

The GBP5.2 bn work programme has been seven years in construction and employed some 8,000 people.

Collaborative working has formed a crucial element to timely completion and avoiding extensive night-time work, thereby minimising disruption to local residents.

Impressive technical achievements including the new Stratford Box and Medway bridge have been delivered within complex and tight site constraints.

The environmental and social challenges posed by CTRL also serve to illustrate some of the latest examples of best practise.

Hundreds of tonnes of excavated materials (enough to fill Wembley Stadium 12 times over!) have been reused in innovative ways on site and all works have been achieved under award winning standards of health and safety with bottom up buy-in from staff.

This seminar and site visit will provide an overview of the key technical and sustainability features of the development and discuss these with the practitioners involved alongside a unique opportunity to experience first hand the scale of this amazing project.

Why you should attend This seminar will be of particular interest to engineers, contractors, project managers, surveyors, planners, environmental and community relations specialists.

Delegates will gain: an understanding of the technical issues relating to design and construction of a new railway through London awareness of how the social and environmental issues are integral to construction management benefit from gaining an insight into the lessons learned.
