This year's national Construction Manager of the Year Award has been won by Taylor Woodrow's Jeremy Williams.

This year's national Construction Manager of the Year Award (CMYA) has been won by Taylor Woodrow's Jeremy Williams The award, run by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), was presented at London's Grosvenor House Hotel on Tuesday 31st October

Jeremy won the award for his outstanding work leading the team that built the Welsh Assembly Building in Cardiff.

His single-minded focus delivered the Welsh Assembly's first major construction project on time and on budget, taking the wind out of the sails of the project's many critics, who had feared it was turning into a wild extravagance.

Despite the contract placing more risk than usual with the contractor, Jeremy adopted a collaborative approach.

He won over the designers, many of whom had been working on the project for years, and built a strong team committed to achieving the project objectives by setting individual and team goals, and encouraging a proactive culture.

Even during difficult times, when the easy option would have been to resort to a lawyer's letter, Jeremy kept his cool and doggedly kept the project on track.

Chris Blythe CIOB chief executive commented, "Anyone who has seen the National Assembly for Wales would understand why Jeremy has won this year's CMYA.

The challenge was not just to build a truly outstanding project but also to win over the hearts and minds of politicians, the press and the public".

"On all of those fronts Jeremy excelled with a great deal of ability and an infectious air of confidence".

"Jeremy now joins the industry's elite - an outstanding group of construction managers who have previously won the title." CMYA is the only industry event to celebrate the individual achievement and excellence of managers in construction, rather than the projects, processes or design and has been established for over 25 years.

To be held in such esteem requires a judging process of the highest standard.

It takes over thirty judges five months of meticulous site visits and interviews (including the nominee, client and contractors) before the overall winner can be decided upon. Request free introductory details about products from CIRIA ...
