Towards zero carbon housing
CIRIA announce London seminar on 'Towards Zero Carbon Housing - Lessons from Northern Europe'.
- Lessons from Northern Europe.
Seminar Date: 16 March 2007.
Venue: Church House Conference Centre, London.
Some 27% of UK emissions of carbon dioxide are attributable to energy use in the domestic sector and the governments recent Energy Review emphasised the need for action in both new and existing housing, if the UK is to meet the long-term challenge of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 60% by 2050.
The specific aims of this mission were to:.
* Investigate the current state of development and application of the following technologies relevant to energy use in new and existing housing:.
- Ground source heat pumps.
- Micro combined heat and Power (Micro-CHP) and associated distribution systems.
- Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery.
- Advanced insulation materials.
* Gain information on experience in use of low-energy dwellings, from the perspective of the occupiers and providers.
* Learn about the incentives and other policy measures that have promoted the take-up of new energy technologies.
Along with the launch of a written report, this free one-day seminar will discuss the mission findings, with the opportunity to pose questions to the mission team and network with other attending delegates.
