Making Gordon Brown eco-towns vision a
reality

DTI Global Watch Mission led by CIRIA produced a report "Towards Zero Carbon Homes" which illustrates other Northern European countries' approach to the design and construction of low carbon homes.

The recent announcement by Gordon Brown relating to the construction of a number of eco-towns combining affordability and high sustainability credentials creates further momentum to the sustainability agenda A DTI Global Watch Mission led by CIRIA produced a report "Towards Zero Carbon Homes" which illustrates other Northern European countries' approach to the design and construction of low carbon homes

The mission examined design and construction of new housing, refurbishment of older housing, emerging and existing energy technologies, materials and technical factors.

The report's conclusions stated that zero carbon technologies can be applied to a wide range of new and refurbished buildings through a mixture of good design and use of technology.

Since the launch in mid March, over 2,500 copies of the report have been downloaded from CIRIA's website, with many more downloading the report from from DTI's global watch website, confirming the industry's appetite for information in this area.
