CIRIA releases invasive species management guide

A CIRIA product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Sep 16, 2009

CIRIA is delivering an interactive conference on identification, prevention and control of non-native invasive species.

CIRIA has developed a best-practice manual: 'Invasive species management for infrastructure managers and the construction industry'.

The Scotland launch was held on 9 June at the Scottish Natural Heritage conference centre at Battleby Perth.

The event highlighted the economical costs and the environmental and operational benefits to infrastructure owners of managing invasive species.

The launch in England will be part of a two-day national conference organised with the Non-native Species Network.

The conference will be held on the 23-24 November at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens.

Day one will focus on the cost to the economy and management methods being employed by some of the country's largest land owners.

The key themes for day two will be horizon scanning, pathways of introduction, prevention and their links to legislation and risk management.

The guidance offered in the interactive conference is aimed at: infrastructure and utility owners and operators; estate managers with land and aquatic assets; private and public-sector environmental and biodiversity officers and regulators; environmental consultants and specialist contractors; quarrying and extractive industry land managers; building and construction planners, developers and landscape architects.

CIRIA's publication will be distributed to delegates at the conference.
