CIRIA aims to stop crime through design
CIRIA is conducting research to examine how planners and designers can address the threat of crime and disorder in public areas.
CIRIA's project, Addressing crime and disorder through planning and design (RP937) aims to understand how design and planning aspects could impact antisocial behaviour or disorder within communities, and how good design can be used to encourage responsible behaviour.
The project will look into a variety of different elements, ranging from the planning of street layouts to the threat of terrorism.
The project will also take account of existing guidance and legislation such as the Crime and Disorder Act, 1998.
